Plan Your Green Wedding with Ponte Winery

Category: Recent Articles  |  Permalink

Published: Tuesday, August 31, 2010

A wedding is among one of the most important days in a couples life. If you both care a lot about doing your part to keep the planet green, there's no reason why you can't have a green wedding. The average US wedding leaves a huge footprint behind, both ecologically and economically. However, going green for your wedding doesn't mean you have to make any compromises for your big day. In fact, you are more likely to go above and beyond the usual decadence and consumption, by creating something that is true to who you are. This will create a truly moving wedding atmosphere and celebration that people will come to remember for years to come. To help create an unforgettable green Temecula wedding, follow these simple tips.

Green Wedding Tips:

  • Beware of the Number of Guests - More people means more miles that need be traversed, more food consumed, a larger venue, more overall waste when the wedding is done with, and not to mention more overall costs.

  • Source Locally - Do your best to research anything that you can find locally. Food, drinks and flowers are typically the best things to get started on. It's likely that you will save money on shipping, plus you'll feel great about supporting the local markets.

  • Source Green - Anything you buy or rent will have an impact on the environment. Things to consider: if you go with a caterer, try persuading them to use organic produce, look into what your dress/bridesmaid's dresses are made of, your gift bags, etc... It is important that you get to know the products and the business you are considering using.

  • Choosing Your Venue - Cut down on travel for everyone by selecting a venue close to as many of your guests as you can. Consider supporting any great local community gardens, buildings or landmarks you can think of.

  • Transportation - It doesn't hurt to state how much you would appreciate your guests for finding an alternate form of transportation to the wedding: bus, train, bike, carpool, etc... You should also consider simply providing a shuttle bus.

  • Eco-Invites - Thanks to an increasing number of suppliers creating recycled, handmade or tree-free invitations you won't have to compromise on invitations either. If you're really daring, you may even want to consider doing online Evites.

  • Registry - A number of retailers now have many eco-friendly options so do your research.

  • Communication - It is important that you share with your guests how much your green wine country wedding means to you. The more they know, the more inclined they may be to support your ways.

If you need any help at all planning your beautiful and one of a kind green wedding, contact Ponte Winery today!
