What to Do if You Think a Dog May Attack

Category: Professional Services  |  Permalink

With over 72 million dogs owned by Americans and approximately 4.7 million of those Americans having suffered from dog bites each year, it is vital to know what to do and how to react if you think a dog is about to attack. Fortunately there are a few simple tactics one can take when they feel a dog is about to attack.

What to Do if You Think a Dog May Attack

  • Try to resist any impulse to scream and run away.

  • It is important that you remain motionless, with your hands at your sides and be sure to avoid eye contact with the dog.

  • Only after the dog has lost interest in you should you SLOWLY back away until he is out of sight.

  • Should the dog actually attack you, try as much as you can to "feed" him your purse, jacket, bicycle or anything else you may have or that is around you in which you can put between yourself and the dog.

  • If you fall or the dog happens to be strong enough to knock you to the ground, curl into a ball as quickly as you can with your hands over your ears. Try as hard as you can to remain motionless while refraining from screaming or rolling around.

It is important to know that in the event of you or a loved one being bitten the personal injury lawyers and personal injury attorneys at Sweeney Attorneys can help. Sweeney Attorneys can quickly and efficiently evaluate your case to determine whether or not you may qualify for a lawsuit that could possibly help you to qualify for a lawsuit that may potentially provide you with compensation for any current or future medical treatments, medical bills, injuries, pain and suffering and wages lost.
