Why Rent When You Can Own

Category: Real Estate  |  Permalink

Published: Wednesday, December 30, 2009

There are many disadvantages to renting out an apartment or home. It is important to consider these factors when you are deciding on whether or not to rent or purchase a home. To help you to determine why you should look into purchasing a home we've provide a list of cons in the renting world for you to consider.

The Cons of Renting

  • You won't have the freedom to go all out in decorating the house and/or garden. You may need the approval of your landlord/lady in order to proceed.

  • You won't be able to take advantage of incentives from things that may potentially make the home more energy efficient. If the home were energy efficient you could potentially save on your energy bills.

  • You don't gain equity with your rental payments and wont own the home at the end of your payments...should they ever end.

  • At any time you may be given an eviction notice from your landlord/lady and will be forced to find another place to live.

  • Most landlords/ladys don't allow pets on the property. If they do the additional costs to have a pet are usually very expensive.

  • If the property's value begins to appreciate, you will not benefit from it whatsoever.
